Background

Edington and Shapwick was founded in 1974 by the late Colin Atkinson, C.B.E. His goal - 'To provide a specialist dyslexic school for boys and girls whose education would otherwise be sabotaged by dyslexia.' The crossed keys in our logo signifies unlocking potential.

Our Philosophy – A Unique Formula for Success
Our mission statement 'The same roads by different steps' rings true in everything we do. We provide specialist dyslexic teaching in classes with a 6:1 pupil to teacher ratio. Our environment is built for children with dyslexia – where our pupils feel the same as everyone else.

As a result our pupils' self esteem and confidence grows. They feel happy, fulfilled, confident and most importantly of all they are given the same opportunities as children who do not have dyslexia.  We do not believe in specialist dyslexic units situated within a mainstream school where a child may feel different. We know the things that make a difference and our experience, results and feedback from parents, pupils and teachers demonstrates that our unique formula works.

Why Choose Us?

If a pupils dyslexia is not understood they may not achieve their potential.

Many of our pupils leave our school to go on to university, whatever path they take we have given them the confidence to believe in themselves and believe that anything is possible – their dyslexia will not hold them back.

Jos’s parents wrote this letter – “ Jos has just finished his studies and has been awarded a First; not bad for a genuine dyslexic. As you can imagine, we are delighted with his efforts and felt that we should share his achievements with you, as there is no doubt that it was your help and guidance, early on in his schooling, that set him on the road to his current academic success.”
